SMAC
Our friend, Carol Noonan, is an internationally known folk singer/songwriter who came on the New England music scene in the '90's first as the lead singer and songwriter for Knots And Crosses, followed by a solo career with several albums from Rounder records and later her own label. Carol and her husband, Jeff Flagg, decided that life was getting a bit too normal and together they created a performing arts center - in their backyard.

We've been a long-time supporter of Carol's music and, now, the Stone Mountain Arts Center. Opened in October 2006, it hosts a wide variety of performers including Dar Williams, Marty Stuart, John Gorka, The Capitol Steps, Paula Poundstone, Mary Chapin-Carpenter, and the Indigo Girls.

David regularly photographs the Stone Mountain LIVE shows - a cross between A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage - featuring an absolutely killer house band and invited performers from all over New England.

The aforementioned SML house band are the "Stone Mountain Boys", lead by guitar hero Duke Levine and featuring the talents of some of the top Boston-area musicians: Kevin Barry (guitar, lap steel), Mike Rivard (bass), Sonny Barbato (accordian, piano), Billy MacGillivray (drums), and Chris Cote (vocalist).

There are few things better in life than great live music, and SMAC is one of the premiere places in New England to hear it -- well worth the drive to Brownfield, Maine. If you can't get there or want to get a taste for what the shows are like, please feel free to poke around our photo albums below (click on a title or the photo to see the full album).

Stone Mountain LIVE - April 26, 2008

This Stone Mountain LIVE of 2008 featured appearances by acclaimed country singer Suzy Bogguss. They were also filming the performances for a television pilot and there were 4 or 5 cameras aimed onstage! I was asked to not photograph during the show, so the photos here are just a few bookend shots. (Pity, there were some great visual moments, like Eric Royer's One Man Band!)
